TONY AWARDS The Tony Award
is the industry nickname for the coveted Antoinette Perry Award. This annual award is given for distinguished achievement in theater and was originated in 1947. When a show wins a Tony Award for play of the year, the award goes to the producer/producers as well as the
author. When a show wins a Tony Award for musical of the year, the award goes to the producer/producers. Authors are nominated in categories for music, lyrics,
score, and book. The show may also win individual awards for a performer in the show, best direction, choreography, music, etc.
